Facts as an artist:

• influenced the development of Western art.
• Italian Renaissance painter, sculptor, architect, poet, and engineer.
• Michelangelo was considered the greatest living artist in his lifetime
• first Western artist whose biography was published while he was alive 

The Pietà (1498–1499)  

• housed in St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City
• This famous work of art depicts the body of Jesus on the lap of his mother Mary after the Crucifixion
• Balances the Renaissance ideals of classical beauty with naturalism

The Statue of David (1501-1504)

• The statue represents the Biblical hero David
• represents the defeat of Goliath(Greek myth)
• David's pose not really obvious that he's heroic
• symbolize the defense of civil liberties embodied in the Florentine Republic

 Sistine Chapel

•  is the best-known chapel in the Apostolic Palace
• Took about 4 years to complete
• one of his most famous painting
• The first mass in the Sistine Chapel was celebrated on August 9, 1483
